Idle Moments with Mads

Recently I’ve noticed that Mads and I tend to spend a little bit more of our time together at home. Part of it has to do with her schooling being a big part of our day and the other being that COVID has kept many places in our area closed until quite recently.

Over the last few months Madison and I were able to make some really great memories like our first fishing trip together and an unrivaled Father’s Day brunch!

As I sit and recall my childhood, I think about all the similarly great things I did with my parents when I was her age. While all of those memories are fantastic I find myself drawn to some of the more idle moments spent in the fond embrace of kith and kin.

I also find myself enjoying those same idle moments with Madison.

Moments like lazy afternoons spent cuddled on the couch with stories and snacks, dozy mornings in bed, or silly games made up on the spot! Simply quiet moments when no one else is around, memories that only her and I will share. Those are the memories that have the most value to me as a parent as it shows my daughter how to be present in her own world.

Hopefully, as she ages Mads will remember creating “Alphabet Catch” in the playroom or learning to cast a fishing rod in the backyard as fondly as she does birthdays or exciting new toys!
