The Dad-tionary

Merriam-Webster defines a Dictionary as “a reference book listing alphabetically the words of one language and showing their meanings or translations in another language”. 

Mads’-Dad defines Dad-tionary as “a reference translating the meaning of a Dad’s words or phrases into plain language”. 

With that, here are some common Dad Phrases and Words translated for your convenience.

LATER (ˈlā-tər)

:Not today, not tomorrow, not ever (See maybe) 

// Dad, can we get ice cream? Maybe, Later…//

MAYBE (ˈmā-bē)

: Uncertain, certainty. Not likely to commence (See later) 

// Dad, can I borrow the car? Maybe…//

ASK MOM (ˈäsk ˈmäm) Alternatively [Ask your Mother]

: I don’t want to get in trouble for saying the wrong thing. 

: I don’t have the energy to deal with this question

//Ask Mom, I’m trying to fix the dishwasher//

NO (ˈnō) 

: No, never, negative, nay (see later & maybe)

I WAS RESTING MY EYES ( ˈī wæs ˈre-stiŋ ˈmīˈī) 

: Napping instead of doing something else, especially while watching tv, particularly when they should be awake

//No, I wasn’t sleeping. I was resting my eyes.//
