Extended Holiday Spirit

Chrstmas has come and gone, but we here in the Mads’ Dad household are still holding on to our holiday spirit. With New Years Eve just around the corner it brings with it the much need relief of 2021!! It will also bring the arrival of my older brother and his wife, Uncle Joel and Auntie Beckie as they are known by Madison.

Unfortunately, they were unable to make it here for christmas, so we’ve extended our holiday season to include both of them. NYE is a special day for our family anyhow as it’s Joel’s birthday!

When we were kids we often had to move holidays due to my dad’s job as a firefighter. He often had to work long 72+ hour shifts that would overlap with holidays. A problem which only got worse as my brother and I aged, taking jobs of our own. With it we learned to adapt and evolve our holiday traditions, something I hope to teach Madison in practice.

This year’s holidays didn’t work out as we expected them due to the ongoing global pandemic, something I expect many of us have had to endure. With any luck and a little bit more holiday spirit, 2021 will be better.
