Here at Mads’ Dad Blog, we wish to extend a very heartfelt and sincere thank you to all those who have served and those who continue to do. We also want to wish the US Marine Corps a Happy 246th birthday!
Why Veteran’s Day isn’t Just Anothern Three Day Weekend
Many people don’t realize that Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th, regardless of the day of the week. It marks the anniversary of the Armistice with Germany, the official end of the first World War.
It is actually preferred by many veterans when the holiday falls in the middle of the week as it helps preserve the integrity behind the idea. Sure, three days off is nice, but the holiday is about remembrance, not throwing a kegger.
How Can You Help Preserve the Integrity of the Holiday?
- Say Thank You to a veteran, take a moment to share in their story if they are willing.
- Take a donation to a shelter that serves homeless veterans
- Visit a nursing home/ VWF Hall
- Attend a memorial
- Teach your kids about the holiday
